KYPHOSIS

Also called hunched back or rounded shoulders. In this condition, the curvature of
the spine becomes excessively convex posteriorly.

There are mainly three types of kyphosis-
• Postural: because of poor posture that affects the normal alignment and
structure of the spine
• Congenital: present since birth
• Scheuermann’s: more common during teenage

CAUSES
• Bad posture
• Fracture
• Osteoporosis
• Inherited diseases like
• Any kind of spinal injury spina Bifida etc.
• Degeneration of the intervertebral disc
• Tumor
• Muscle tightness

SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS
• Upper back pain
• Muscles
• Visible curvature of the spine that protrude outwards
• Breathing problems like shortness of breath
• Muscle wasting
• Short stature
• Further bone deformities

RISK FACTORS
• Poor posture
• Poor chair structure
• Age
• Any prior injuries

TREATMENT

• Knee to chest
• Pelvic tilt
• Retraction

When you have a visible curvature of hunchback and it starts bothering you in
every daily routine task and the pain persists even after taking medicines.

PRECAUTIONS
• Maintain good posture (avoid slouching the back)
• Always use a comfortable chair
• Avoid prolonged sitting (take a break of 2-3 min every half an hour)
• Try to avoid carrying heavy loads on the back that may cause your back to
bend forward 9rounded shoulders)
